I know this is an Ambrea wide rule change and there is little point protesting it, but I felt we out to have a thread to discuss, vent, and generally hob nob about it over tea and biscuits. Please keep it friendly since after all there is really little the Admins can do about it and I'm sure our Admins resisted it for poor Kathia's sake (smiles).
My one underage Avie I'm currently playing is about to turn 18 so he is not problem though I had enjoyed playing the rebellious teen so much I was going to propose a new more permanent teen alt LOL.
Since Jhulae is pregnant again (somebody needs to send Kit to the vet and get him fixed) how is this going to affect that RP? We going to say no more pregnancies or have the Fae stealing the children and hauling them off to Faerie to grow up overnight?
1. I support child avatars even though I am Childfree in RL. Heck, I have two child avatars myself for when I feel like going to the kid themed events or exploring what a Victorian childhood must have been like. Roleplaying a child or teen can be a great experience, the character can learn and grow over the "years" - make friends, learn skills, define their personality and it's pretty darn cool on top of that. I like Child Safe areas, places where child avatars are welcomed and things are made specially for them.
2. On the other hand... I am sick to death of prim pregnancies, prim talking bellies and prim babies. Women do more than give birth and not all women even want children. we are not walking incubators - kthx. I'm also sick of 8 and 10 year old AVs who tawk wike twis and have binkies in their mouths or get away with murder because they are so pwecious or have interactive diapers that must be changed. It makes me wonder if the person remembers being a real child at all or just wants to be babied. Sometimes, I want to be an adult in an adult environment - not feel like I'm in the middle of the Brady Bunch and that should be okay just as it should be okay to want to be a kid and be in a kid only environment.
Karamoon is not a child safe area, it is a roleplay for adults with violence, sex and all those goodies. Yes, the people behind the avs are adults but there comes the issue of characters having to pander to the child IC. Not everyone likes their intimate bar flirting rp cut short because Mary Sue just entered with her newborn and five year old. An idea might be to rp time with your "children" in private places, where you know child AVs are allowed (skyboxes, homesteads outside of Karamoon) or through IMs. I was in a Journal RP once where sex was banned, we rped it in IMs and didn't post it to the community. Kept everyone happy, it was our way of skirting the rules and the admins were fine with it.

You just stated my #1 problem with child rpers, but I suppose this isn't what this thread is about so I won't take it beyond that but I agree with just about everything you stated though again, I think stricter guidelines/policies and a better screening process to ensure the player behind the child RP can do it responsibly and with dignity wouldn't been a more appropriate response to this.
*smiles to Enelar* I agree with both yurs and wicthlords posts. stricter guidelines would be very good. I like rping a child avis.I have one too but she is 15 now more teen than child lol.
Definately guidelines would have been a better solution - things like "No children at the inn after dark and no children alone on the streets after dark" or setting up areas specifically for child av/family rp. It may seem extreme but it shows a willingness to ensure child and teen avs are NOT used inappropriately in Karamoon. Screening potential players or only offering child av options to long time capable players would also ensure no abuse took place and these characters were being played for the right reasons - not for attention seeking or sexual age-play.
Zara can fix Kit if breeding is a problem *smirks* But I digress to the OOC. I find it hard to understand why child avies are now outlawed, so to speak, throughout Ambrea. We have had many enjoyable child characters, including Kathia, Jhulae as a child, Zara's birth daugther and many of her fosterlings. Children are part of the backdrop for any town, city, or story. They are part of the lifeblood of roleplay, even if we only react with one or two in roleplay. I think this is an unfair rule to those players that had intended to keep their child avies children rather than aging them to maturity. Is there any particular reason why this decision came about? Is there any way we can get child avies back into play, even if under certain restrictions (such as when they were forbidden to enter the Keep)? Another example of restrictions was that the bath house and other places were restricted to child avies during certain times, i.e., in the Drow caves, the children could use the baths as long as no adults were in there and adults weren't supposed to be *ahem* intimate there, unless they kept it in IM. Just a few ideas and sending my thoughts out to the players community. :)
