HOW TO : Post properly on the NING (using the new category system)
I promised I would and I've had a bit of a brain fart in blog posting... and discussion posting since then, but I'm pushing through it because I've noticed an increase of people just throwing things out there. This will be a working HOW TO so that future new members to the NING and old can benefit for this as it changes, so that EVERYONE can be on the same page.

PART ONE: (Posting a Blog)
Blogs can be found towards the bottoms of the NING page for several reasons. The first is that they cannot be made into ongoing discussions. they are meant for simple sharing and creative output. They also do not update as the information further up does. This makes 'seeing' the newest entries in blogs posts impossible. For these reasons, Blogs are nothing more than sharing of CHARCTER IC CHAT LOGS, BACKGROUND STORIES, AND IC AMBREAN HISTORIES. That means, there should be no OOC listings WHATSOEVER to appear in a blog. Nothing about OOC thoughts, nothing about ooc beliefs, funnies and the like. There is a how to section below that addresses those.
So, to post a proper Blog, do the following:
1. click either in your My Page area, or on the main page of NING, to the section labeled BLOGS. at the bottom left corner, there will be a tiny pus sign with the words "add a blog post". click that plus sign and words and a new page will load for your blog
2. Title Your blog. Just be sure to keep out derogatory words and profanities from the tiny, but feel free to name it whatever you please. You can always go back and change it,even after its been posted.
3. Write your blog. This part is also open for you to write whatever stories and backgrounds you wish, though please remember two things:
a. OOC warnings: As a general rule of good conduct, please warn readers of any graphic information you may have in the following story in case they are not too open to that type of reading. Graphic information would be ,as examples, a bloody fighting scene, or something involving a sexual act. Also it is a good thing to thank any roleplayers that may have contributed to you either in ideas or roleplay time to the blog you post. It makes people fell special.
b. REMEMBER WHAT A BLOG POST IS. This is not an area to post videos, or comic strips, or going away on RL vacations. The blogs are only for In Character stories, backgrounds and historical information about Ambrea, like songs and poems. Please respect the hard work of those that do contribute actively to this area by allowing them the proper means to showcase in these channels!
4. In Blogs you can choose options of who can view, be it your friends, just yourself, or the general public. If you know what you are posting is very secretive but you would like to share, we would suggest just making it for friends only, otherwise, keep your ooc warnings from number 3 listed, and post general. AS another note, you also screen whom REPLIES to your blog posting. So if you like you can let anyone read it, but only allow your friends to comment on it, for example.
5. Tags: This option allows your blog to be searched through keywords of your choosing. you may list as many or little as you feel is necessary.
6. blogging dates, you can always write a blog and select a later date for it to appear, though many delight in posting it immediately. It is a writer's choice, and so it stays an option,
7. When you are done, check over your blog for major typos or grammatical errors, and if you need to change your title as mentioned above that you can.
8. PREVIEW your post. This helps you see if the italics you added are correctly placed or if copy/pasting a chat log, allows you to see the final product and perhaps that missed IM line before you embarass yourself by posting it to the world.
9. Click PUBLISH POST to complete your blog. and bask in the glory of all your hard work paid off and then check back to it once a day to see if others left you compliments on your writings, or just leave it as a pleasant surprise for others to enjoy.

PART TWO: (Posting a Discussion)
Discussions are the second sections found beneath the NEW column on your main page. Most the items published for active talking are part of the DISCUSSION tab. It is a note that everything BUT In Character stories, backgrounds, and histories of the worldy nature are allowed in the Discussions. If you ever get confused, think on this: If you can make a topic into a discussion OR a debate, then it is meant for the DISCUSSION forum. Please note, that in the Karamoon NING, we do not allow fellow players to berate or look down upon other individuals as it breaks our 12 COMMANDMENTS of conduct upon the NING, all that is placed as a Discussion, should be clear of that.
To post a proper Discussion, do the following:
1. On the bottom left corner of the DISCUSSION FORUM area is a little plus sign with the words "Start Discussion" after it. Click the plus sign and the words to open your new Discussion template.
2. Title Your Discussion. Just be sure to keep out derogatory words and profanities from the tiny, but feel free to name it whatever you please. You can always go back and change it,even after its been posted.
3. Write out your discussion. You may add whatever you wish into your discussion be it for laughs or seriousness just remember the following at all times.
a. OBEY THE 12 COMMANDMENTS. It's really easy to do. Just be nice, mature thinking adults and you'll do fine.
b. OBEY THE 12 COMMANDMENTS. Seriously.. it's important. so important its listed twice, so you remember. :P
4. Categories: If you click on the drop down menu you will see MANY different categories. If you are unsure which to click, follow the following guidelines and if not, when all else fails.... OOC chatter it.
a. Events: this is to list ideas you may have for an event, questions you may have concerning an event you've heard about and wish more information on, but don't know who to go to for it, or an event that is posted that you wish to detail for all to know about!
b. Karamoon Characters and Backgrounds: For questions concerning your character, a race type/mythos, IC religion questions, debates on Karamoon culture, plots you wish you could start but don't know how, or questions concerning the lore of the land already in place.
c. Roleplay and the RPS: For questions concerning the roleplay etiquette of applying RPS to your everyday life, RP$ ideas and thoughts, and any ideas you find that you can use the RPS meter for, in new ways! ((Please note, this isn't for technical questions. Those go to the scripting geniuses at BNJ, and not us.))
d. OOC chatter: everything else not mentioned above! Funnies, video sharing, ooc notices of departure, random thoughts NOT concerning RP all goes here.
5. Tags: This option allows your blog to be searched through keywords of your choosing. you may list as many or little as you feel is necessary.
6. Attach files: In case you don't know how to embed pictures but would like to add them, or other written information, it may go here.
7. When you are done, check over your Discussion for major typos or grammatical errors, and if you need to change your title as mentioned above that you can.
8. Click ADD DISCUSSION to complete your post. please note that when people update to your discussion it WILL go up to the top of the Discussion forum to better see what has recently been talked upon. Also in many cases you can place in your NING settings to be emailed of when new updates to the discussion take place.

Alright ... my apologies. I was going on the old idea that "post, not discussion" was a Blog and "discussion, not post" was a Discussion instead of keeping an IC/OOC separation. I'll remember to post all of my OOC stuff as a Discussion from now on :-)

maybe we can add this to the rules portion of the main site, or a link to, so its available on the main page at all times?

I agree with Kyra. I think having it a post in some manner makes it very easy to miss this.
In most places, ignorance of rules/laws is never an excuse. But... I think we're all nicer than that. Just need to have the info. readily available.
